Certified peer specialist is grateful to get COVID-19 vaccine

Referring to the COVID-19 vaccine, Norman Barkley, certified peer specialist in the admissions center at South 9th Street, remarked, “I’m happy to have gotten it!”
At first, Norman hesitated about getting the COVID-19 vaccine, because he has had previous issues with the flu vaccine. Once his PCP gave approval, Norman decided to get the vaccine to protect himself, a 67-year-old long-time smoker. Also, in his position at the admissions center, Norman comes into contact with everyone who comes in and out of the building creating a greater chance of exposure to the COVID-19 virus.
Norman shared that he had absolutely no side effects from the first dose and recommends anyone to get the vaccine. “It’s a relief on your own mind that you’re protected.”
Norman is very grateful to be one of the first vaccinated. He expressed his gratitude, “I’m very lucky to get the vaccine as soon as I did.”
Last week, Norman got the second dose of the vaccine. He said it went very well and he still had no reactions to the injection. Norman added, “We all need to do it, if and when possible, to end this crazy pandemic.”
