Residential Services for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities
Pittsburgh Mercy offers persons with intellectual disabilities individualized residential service options in many communities. Persons may choose to reside in private homes or apartments in the community. Some programs offer around-the-clock staff supervision. Our Supported Housing and Lifesharing programs offer more independent living environments.
Community Homes
Pittsburgh Mercy operates dozens of licensed community homes in Allegheny County. These homes are sometimes referred to as Community Living Arrangements (CLAs). In our community homes, one to four individuals live together in a home or apartment and receive supports and services based on their individual safety, medical, behavioral, and recreational needs. Levels of support vary from a minimum of 30 hours per week to around-the-clock staff supervision.

Lifesharing Program
Lifesharing, also known as family living or shared living, is an alternative living choice for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Lifesharing offers adults and children with various needs the opportunity to live and share life experiences with an unrelated companion or family in a private home. Together, they form a caring household.
The Lifesharing Program also offers options and supports to individuals who reside with natural family members.
Pittsburgh Mercy provides ongoing education, supervision, and support to Lifesharing individuals, families of origin, and provider families. We’ve proudly matched more than a dozen individuals and families who share similar lifestyles and interests.
