Mental Health Residential Services
Residential programs are designed to help persons who are in recovery. Pittsburgh Mercy offers many residential services that are designed to support adults who have a mental illness to maintain their own residence in the community. We offer supports and teach you the skills you need to maximize your independence.
Services vary by program. Some of our programs offer supportive services to you in your home. Others offer around-the-clock support. Whatever level of support you need, we can help.

Housing As Home Supportive Housing Program
We offer Housing As Home, in-home supportive housing services, to persons who own their own home, hold their own lease, or live with family or friends in Allegheny County. Supportive housing services may be right for you if are independent in many areas of your life, but you need a little extra help with the following skills:
- Budgeting
- Cleaning
- Cooking
- Communication with your landlord
- Community integration
- Health and wellness practices
- Housekeeping
- Laundry
- Links to community resources
- Medication management
- Organizational skills.
We offer supportive services to you in your home once a week or a few times a month, depending upon your needs. The length of services varies, depending upon your needs, but can last up to several years.
To be eligible for this program, you must be at least 18 years old and have a referral from your mental health provider. Referrals must be approved by the Pittsburgh Mercy residential utilization care manager.

Community Supportive Housing
We offer in-home Community Supportive Housing services to persons who hold their own lease, own their own home, or live with family or friends in select Allegheny County communities. You may be independent in many areas of living, but may need a little extra help with the following skills:
- Budgeting
- Cleaning
- Cooking
- Communication with your landlord
- Community integration
- Health and wellness practices
- Housekeeping
- Laundry
- Links to community resources
- Medication management, including daily medication monitoring and delivery services
- Organizational skills.
We offer supportive services to you in your home. The type of services and how often they’re provided depends upon your needs. Additionally, staff members are available to participants in this program by phone up to 14 hours a day, seven days a week.
The length of service varies, depending upon your needs.
To be eligible for this service, you must be at least 18 years old and have a referral from your mental health provider. You must also live within seven miles of our Reedsdale Center (North Shore) and Journey Home (Carrick) locations.
Referrals must be approved by the Pittsburgh Mercy residential utilization care manager.

24/7 Supportive Housing Program
A 24/7 Supportive Housing Program is a supportive housing program for adults with a mental health diagnosis who want and are able to live in the community with around-the-clock support. Our 24/7 Supportive Housing Programs offer support from staff members who are on-site 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Services are designed to help you reach and maintain your maximum independence in the community.
Bellwood Transitional Age Supportive Housing Program
Located in Ross Township, Bellwood Transitional Age Supportive Housing Program offers services to transition age adults, ages 18 to 25 years, who have a mental health diagnosis. The goals of the program are to help you successfully transition into adulthood and to other residential programs in the community.
We’ll help to teach you:
- Budgeting
- Cleaning
- Cooking
- Communication with your landlord
- Community integration
- Health and wellness practices
- Housekeeping
- Laundry
- Links to community resources
- Medication management
- Organizational skills.
The program consists of five, two-bedroom apartments in the same building.
Staff members are available on-site 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Each person pays 50 percent of their total income (not to exceed a ceiling amount) plus a security deposit and utilities, as applicable.
The length of stay varies, depending upon your needs.
To be eligible for this program, you must be between 18 and 25 years old and have a referral from your mental health provider. Referrals must be approved by the Allegheny County Department of Human Services, Office of Behavioral Health.

Broadway Supportive Housing Program
Located in McKees Rocks, our Broadway Supportive Housing Program offers safe, affordable, and accessible one-bedroom or two-bedroom apartments to adults who have a mental health diagnosis and need support to live independently in the community.
Staff members are available to participants in this program 24 hours a day, seven days a week, as needed.
Each person has a private bedroom and pays a flat fee for rent plus a security deposit.
The length of stay varies, depending upon your needs.
To be eligible for this program, you must be at least 18 years old and have a referral from your mental health provider. Referrals must be approved by the Allegheny County Department of Human Services, Office of Behavioral Health.

Wolfe Supportive Housing Program
Located in Baldwin, our Wolfe Supportive Housing Program is an individualized residential program offering assistance and supports to adults who have a mental health diagnosis and another need, such as deafness or hard of hearing.
Each person lives in their own apartment.
Staff members are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, as needed, and are able to hold a simple conversation in American Sign Language (ASL).
Each person pays 50 percent of their total income (not to exceed a ceiling amount) plus a security deposit and utilities, as applicable.
The length of stay varies, depending upon your needs.
To be eligible for this program, you must be at least 18 years old and have a mental health diagnosis, another need, and a referral from your mental health provider. Referrals must be approved by the Allegheny County Department of Human Services, Office of Behavioral Health.

Support Homes
A Support Home is a three-person home for adults, age 18 and over, who have a mental health diagnosis and need 24-hour intensive, in-home support to reach or maintain maximum independence in the community. We offer two Support Homes – one in Bethel Park and one in Carnegie.
Staff members are available on-site 24 hours a day, seven days a week to provide support and help with important life skills, such as:
- Budgeting
- Cooking
- Cleaning
- Housekeeping
- Laundry
- Medication management.
Each person pays 72 percent of their total income (not to exceed a ceiling amount), plus a security deposit and utilities, as applicable. Food, basic personal care, and household items are provided.
The length of stay varies, depending upon your needs.
To be eligible for this program, you must be at least 18 years old and have a referral from your mental health provider. Referrals must be approved by the Allegheny County Department of Human Services, Office of Behavioral Health.

Comprehensive Mental Health Personal Care Homes
A Comprehensive Mental Health Personal Care Home is a personal care home for adults, age 18 and over, who have a mental health diagnosis. A personal care home may be right for you if you need help with daily tasks including dressing, bathing, taking your medication, managing your finances, and evacuating your home in an emergency. Each person has a private room and receives a small, monthly spending allowance.
Pittsburgh Mercy offers three Comprehensive Mental Health Personal Care Homes in Allegheny County:
- Garden View Manor: A 56-person residence in Wilkinsburg
- Munhall Manor: An eight-person residence in Munhall
- Outlook Manor: A 12-person residence in West Mifflin.
Features and services include:
- Counseling staff available on-site 24 hours a day, seven days a week
- Nursing staff available regularly throughout the week
- Group activities, including but not limited to on-site gardening groups, twice a week trips to local fitness centers, weekly shopping trips to area malls and stores, games, and other on- and off-site recreational opportunities
- Help with important life skills, such as:
- Budgeting
- Cooking
- Cleaning
- Housekeeping
- Laundry
- Medication management.
- Three meals and two snacks daily
- Transportation to medical and other appointments.
- Additionally, the Pittsburgh Mercy Mobile Medical Unit brings physical health services to residents at Garden View Manor once a week.
The length of stay varies, depending upon your needs.

Fairweather Lodge
Located in the Pittsburgh neighborhood of Knoxville, Fairweather Lodge is a voluntary, employment-focused rehabilitation and residential program based on the work of the late Dr. George Fairweather, a pioneer in recovery. This program empowers people in recovery from mental illness through living, learning, and working together in the community. Members actively participate in groups, share responsibilities and decision making, and support each other in recovery.

Residential Treatment Facilities
After a hospital stay, some people need additional mental health treatment, rehabilitation, and specialized care before returning to the community. Pittsburgh Mercy offers several programs to help meet the needs of those who need additional services and support.
Residential Treatment Facility for Adults (RTFA)
A Residential Treatment Facility for Adults (RTFA) is a short-term, mental health stabilization and treatment program. Located on the South Side, our Residential Treatment Facility for Adults (RTFA) is a licensed, 16-person residential treatment program. We offer specialized, short-term care to adults, age 18 and over, who are between a hospital stay and return to the community.
Features and services include:
- Person-centered care
- An atmosphere of wellness and recovery
- A tobacco-free environment
- Six group therapy sessions a day, including weekends
- Individual therapy at least twice a week
- Master’s level and licensed clinicians days and evenings
- A registered nurse on every shift
- Daily contact with a psychiatrist
- Care management
- Therapeutic passes and a tiered system to earn privileges
- No forced medication, restraints, or seclusion
- Located near public transportation, grocery shopping, library, and emergency services
- Free parking for visitors
- A secure environment.
The RTFA operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The length of treatment ranges from 45 to 60 days, depending upon your needs.
Referrals to this program must be made by a mental health provider or the justice system. Referrals must be approved by the Allegheny County Department of Human Services, Office of Behavioral Health.
This program is licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services and accredited by CARF International.

Extended Acute Care (EAC) Facility
An Extended Acute Care (EAC) Facility is an intensive residential program that is designed to be a step between a hospital stay and your return to the community. Located in Glen Hazel, our Extended Acute Care (EAC) Facility is a licensed, 16-person program for adults age 18 and over, who:
- Have a mental illness
- Have been discharged from the hospital following mental health treatment
- Need additional, intensive stabilization, treatment, and rehabilitation services to enhance their ability to return to the community successfully.
The EAC offers an intensive, structured, and recovery-oriented program in a safe, secure environment.
Features and services include:
- Person-centered care
- An atmosphere of wellness and recovery
- A tobacco-free environment
- Activities of daily living skills education
- Benefits coordination
- Care management
- Community integration
- Individual therapy
- Group therapy
- Medication management services
- No forced medication, restraints, or seclusion
- Psychiatric evaluation and support
- Psycho-educational groups
- A secure environment.
The EAC operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The length of treatment is up to 180 days (six months), depending upon your needs.

Long-Term Structured Residences (LTSRs)
A Long-Term Structured Residence (LTSR) is a highly-structured, secure residential treatment facility for adults, age 18 and over, who at this time in their lives need additional support to maintain a community placement. LTSRs are designed for those who need long-term treatment and assistance around-the-clock, but do not need to be admitted to a hospital.
Pittsburgh Mercy offers three Long-Term Structured Residences (LTSRs):
- Journey Home LTSR: A 16-person program in Carrick
- Monarch Springs LTSR: A 15-person program in Glen Hazel
- Pioneer LTSR: A six-person program in Brookline.
Socialization, rehabilitation, therapy, and medical monitoring services are provided in a safe and secure environment. Groups and activities are designed to increase your self-awareness, sensitivity to others, independent living skills, and enhance enjoyment of life.
We work with you to develop an individualized treatment plan that identifies goals to assist in transitioning you to a more independent living environment as soon as appropriate. You and your supports are important parts in your treatment process.
The LTSRs operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The length of treatment varies, depending upon your needs.
